Hi, I’m Sarah Warren, a Canadian Certified Counsellor and the heart behind Journey to Resilience.
Life doesn’t spare any of us from challenges. No matter who we are or where we come from, we all encounter moments of stress, uncertainty, and pain. I know this not just as a counsellor, but as someone who has walked through her own muddy waters and found her way back to solid ground.
For years, I juggled multiple jobs to fund my education and my deep love of travel. I was passionate, driven, and constantly in motion. But over time, my body began to whisper what I wasn’t ready to hear: slow down. I was exhausted, frequently sick, and running on fumes. I told myself it was temporary – that once I reached the next milestone, things would get easier.
They didn’t.
Eventually, my health forced me to stop. I had to step away from the career I’d worked so hard to build and confront a future I hadn’t planned for. It was humbling, disorienting, and honestly, terrifying. I felt like I’d lost my footing entirely.
But here’s what I learned: sometimes we need to fall apart before we can come back together, stronger, wiser, and more whole than before.
That season of my life gave me something no textbook ever could. It taught me that struggle isn’t a sign of weakness – it’s often where our deepest strength is forged. I learned that healing isn’t linear, that self-compassion isn’t optional, and that asking for help is one of the bravest things we can do. I also discovered my true calling: helping others navigate their own journeys through the mud and into the light.
Today, I bring both my professional training and my lived experience into every session. I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology, a Bachelor of Community Rehabilitation and Disability Studies, a diploma in Speech-Language Pathology Assisting and I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor. I integrate therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Polyvagal Theory, Solution-Focused Therapy, and mindfulness-based practices, among others. But beyond the credentials, what I offer is genuine empathy, deep respect for your unique story, and an unwavering belief in your capacity to heal and grow.
My approach is simple: I believe you are the expert of your own life. No one knows your experiences, emotions, or inner world better than you do. My role isn’t to fix you — because you’re not broken — or tell you what to do, because that’s not real growth. Instead, I’m here to walk alongside you. To help you untangle what feels overwhelming, rediscover your strengths, and create meaningful, lasting change, at your own pace.
Counselling with me is collaborative, compassionate, and free of judgment. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, navigating trauma, struggling with burnout, or facing a major life transition, we’ll work together to find the tools and insights that resonate with your life, not someone else’s blueprint.
As Thich Nhat Hanh so beautifully said: “No mud, no lotus.”
The mud is real. It’s heavy and uncomfortable and sometimes feels impossible to move through. But it’s also where the most beautiful growth happens. You’ve already survived every difficult moment up until now. You’ve shown up for yourself, even when it was hard. And now, you’re here, considering taking another step forward.
That takes courage, and I’m honoured to be part of your journey.
